Genital Care

Cleaning:

Taking care of your piercing is simple. Twice a day clean your piercing with the soap provided Provon or Satin) or a mild sea salt soak. You will notice a whitish yellow discharge that will crust around the edges.  This is a normal part of healing. After the "crusties" have been moistened in the shower use a pea sized amount of the soap and apply it to the entire area. Allow it to set for a minute or two and then rinse.  When using sea salts, take one gallon of distilled water and add 4 tsp of non-iodized sea salt. Pour out a small glass of the solution and warm it in the microwave. Submerge the piercing by making a vacuum around the piercing by inverting the glass. Doing this for 5-10 minutes a few times a day  will greatly decrease the healing time and discharge.

What to avoid:

  • Do NOT touch the jewelry with out washing your hands first.
  • Do not rotate the jewelry.
  • Pools, hot tubs and lakes. These harbor large amount of bacteria and will surely cause problems in a new piercing.
  • Sexual activity: This piercing is and open channel to your blood stream which increases the likelihood of contracting a STD if engaging in unprotected sex.  Even if you are in a monogamous relationship large amounts of bacteria are transferred during sexual activity.  Be sure to use a condom for the first month and if something hurts -- don't do it!  For men with a frenum or Prince Albert special condoms called Pleasure Plus may be more comfortable.
